First place in the 2025 contest was awarded to Brian Burkett of Rural Retreat, Va. Burkett has served as the manager of Mountain Empire Airport (MKJ) for the past 35 years. “It is quite the honor to be chosen the winner of the Virginia Aviation Photo Contest,” Burkett said. “Being in the aviation business for over 35 years, I have had the privilege of seeing different types of aircraft and meeting people who share the same love for aviation as I do. I encourage everyone in the aviation community to share photos with their local entities and explain the importance of why airports exist and why it is very important to support them.”
