Aviation Events Held Across the Commonwealth
Several aviation events in Virginia capped off the final weekend of April. The Virginia Department of Aviation was present at the Virginia Wing Civil Air Patrol Conference at the Virginia Crossings Hotel and the Women Can Fly event at Shannon Airport. Also occurring across the state was Warrenton Fauquier Airport’s inaugural fly-in.
The ICON A5 Introduction to Flight team was on site at the Virginia Wing Civil Air Patrol Conference teaching cadets about aviation and possible careers in the field. Attendees were able to sit in the cockpit of the ICON A5 aircraft and operate the controls while learning about how airplanes fly. A big hit among the cadets was operating the flight simulator located in the ICON transit van.
Shannon Airport hosted the first Women Can Fly event of the year. Visitors had the chance to talk with women aviators, student pilots and professionals about how to get started with flight training or learning about career opportunities in aviation. Many women also enjoyed a complimentary flight on a private airplane.
Warrenton Fauquier Airport’s inaugural fly-in offered aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to attend a FAA safety seminar, explore the new terminal building and go for a ride in a vintage aircraft. Attendees received three Virginia aviation ambassador program stamps at this event. Overall, it was a great day of aviation events across the Commonwealth.
