2023 Virginia Aviation Photo Contests Winners Announced
The Virginia Department of Aviation announced the winners of the 2023 Virginia Aviation Photo Contest. The winning photography is posted to the DOAV website and will be featured in the Virginia Department of Aviation’s 2024 calendar.
A total of 13 photos were selected for the calendar from 10 photographers across the Commonwealth. Each photographer highlighted aircraft around Virginia’s scenic views and airports. First place in the 2023 contest was awarded to Mark Freeman of Virginia Beach, Va. Freeman’s photo showcased a beautiful sunset at Tangier Island Airport.
Second place in the contest went to John Blaine of Chesterfield, Va. who captured a Virginia Trooper 1 operating the Bell 412 EPI for a hoist and rescue demonstration just after sunset during a training event with the Goochland Fire Department in Fife, Va. Third place was awarded to Alex Hrapunov of Goldvein, Va. who captured a photo of a Decathlon 150CS making an inverted pass at the Culpeper Air Fest.
The 2024 Virginia Aviation Photo Contest is now open and accepting submissions. Entry forms and complete contest details can be found on the DOAV website. The deadline for submissions is August 4, 2024.
