ICON A5 Visits Amherst County High School

The ICON A5 Introduction to Flight team was on the road at Amherst County High School on May 15. Approximately 70 students grades 10-12 had the opportunity to sit in the aircraft and operate the controls while learning about how airplanes fly.

The visit connected with current classroom topics like forces and the physics of flight. Students especially enjoyed using the flight simulator located in the back of the Transit van. They were able to take off virtually from nearby Lynchburg Regional Airport and practice flying and landing a Cessna with the simulator.

The ICON A5 is an amphibious light sport aircraft that the DOAV PR and Education team take across the Commonwealth of Virginia to educate youth about aviation. For more information on how to get this free program to your school or local airport, email Betty Wilson (betty.wilson@doav.virginia.gov).
