Summer Transportation Institute Program Held at VSU

The Virginia Department of Aviation participated in the annual Summer Transportation Institute program at Virginia State University. The purpose of the program is to create awareness and stimulate interest in secondary school students to take maximum advantage of the opportunities that exist in the transportation industry.

WINCHESTER REGIONAL AIRPORT SELECTED FOR NASA/NREL STUDY

Winchester, VA – June 28, 2024 — The Winchester Regional Airport (OKV) was selected as the sole general aviation airport nationwide to participate in a study, “Airports as Energy Nodes,” or ÆNode for short. ÆNode is an activity within NASA’s Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $4.1 Million to Support Aviation Workforce Development in Danville, Virginia

WASHINGTON – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $4.1 million grant to the city of Danville, Virginia for construction of a new aviation training facility.

King's Korner Restaurant Re-Opening

The longtime King’s Korner restaurant at the Chesterfield County Airport has reopened under new ownership. Logan and Candace Vaden bought the business, which includes a buffet style restaurant and catering service, from founder and Logan’s stepfather, Dickie King. LaManque Hired as Senior Aviation Planner

Bill LaManque has joined the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) as a senior aviation planner. He will help dozens of airports across the Commonwealth improve their infrastructure to better serve the flying public. Bill fulfills a role in the Planning and Environmental Section vacated by Scott Denny as he assumed the role of program manager for Advanced Air Mobility for DOAV.

Two Virginia Students Earn Top Honors in International Aviation Art Contest

The Commonwealth’s art students are some of the finest in the world. That is not just the opinion of the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV), but also that of the judges of the International Aviation Art Contest, sponsored by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI). Based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the FAI chose the theme, “Air Sports for a Peaceful World,” and received almost 100 entries from multiple continents.

Keny Kueny Ambassador # 656

Ken Kueny has become the 656th Gold Level Virginia Aviation Ambassador! He visited all of the Commonwealth's 65 public-use airports and five air museums. He asked for his picture in front of the DOAV's ICON A5 because of his love for LSA flying. Welcome to the club Ken!
