Danville Regional Airport (DAN) to Host Free Fly Day and Open House Date: Saturday, November 1st Time: 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Location: Danville Regional Airport (DAN) Details: Danville Regional Airport (DAN) will host a Free Fly Day and an Airport Open House on Saturday, November 1 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Averett University’s flight instructors will complete free airplane rides for children ages 8 to 17. Registration is not required to complete a plane ride. Flights will be completed on a first come, first serve basis. Airport Open House activities include tours of airport facilities including the Operations Tower. In addition, those attending can experience the Danville Science Center's StarLab and enjoy a star-filled night and flight into space aboard the Orion Spacecraft. The IMC Club provides organized “hangar flying” focused on building proficiency and safety in instrument flying. We have very engaging discussions of real-world instrument scenarios, with pilots also sharing their knowledge and experiences in order to promote safety, education, and proficiency. You do not have to be instrument rated to attend. Every meeting consists of scenario presentations and group discussions about instrument procedures, proficiency, unusual or interesting charts, changed rules and procedures, and member experiences. The scenarios we will discuss at this meeting are focused on instrument procedures, decision making, proficiency, weather, and pre-flight planning. Bring your EFB, your experience, and your questions, and be ready to participate. All are welcome. Planes, Trains, and Santa at the Military Aviation Museum Date: Friday, November 28 – Sunday, November 30 Time: 10:00 a.m. Location: Military Aviation Museum Details: Santa flies into the museum each day at 10 a.m. in a vintage airplane, weather permitting. Welcome Santa along the flightline, take a selfie, see loads of vintage airplanes, and marvel at the hangar overrun with trains. All children 13 and under get in free all weekend. Regular prices apply for guests 14 and older. Museum members get in free with advanced registration. All guests with active memberships or pre-purchased tickets get priority access to sit with Santa.
