Willard G. Plentl Sr. Aviation Scholarship Application Form

Eligibility & Requirements:

The Willard G. Plentl Aviation Scholarship, in the amount of $3,000, will be awarded to a Virginia High School senior who is planning an aviation career in a non-engineering area. A certification of acceptance into a non-engineering, aviation-related postsecondary education program is required. Scholarship applicants must have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.5. One scholarship will be awarded each year and is renewable.

Examples of non-engineering aviation careers include but are not limited to pilots, aviation maintenance technicians, aviation managers, etc.

To complete this application you will need to upload the following:

  • personal statement
  • official high school transcript
  • college acceptance letter or other verification of enrollment
  • up to 3 letters of recommendation
  • high school resume/brag sheet

Chad Weaver Aviation Scholarship Application Form

The Virginia Department of Aviation offers residents $1,000 to complete ground school, take flight lessons, or do both!

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • For private pilot licenses or certified flight instructor endorsements only.
  • May be used once for a Private Pilot’s License and once for a CFI endorsement.
  • Must be used at a Virginia flight school. Must have a current FAA medical certificate and a student/pilot certificate.
  • Reimbursement may only be for instruction done after being accepted into the program.

Virginia Aviation Photo Contest Entry Form

The annual Virginia Aviation Photo Contest invites photographers and pilots to showcase their best aircraft and aerial images of Virginia’s scenic landscapes. Drone photos are welcome. Winning entries will be featured in the DOAV’s annual aviation calendar.

Eligibility & Requirements:

  • Deadline: August 14, 2026.
  • Format: Digital Entries Only, .jpg format preferred, minimum 300 ppi or 3 MB (highest resolution possible).

I hereby grant the Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, publish, display, distribute, and create derivative works from my submitted photograph(s) in any format or medium, for any DOAV purpose, including but not limited to print materials, marketing, publications, the annual aviation calendar, websites, and social media. I understand and agree that DOAV may use my photograph(s) without seeking additional permission and without obligation to provide credit, compensation, or notification. I further release and discharge DOAV from any claims arising out of the use of my photograph(s), including rights of publicity or privacy. I represent that my submission does not infringe upon the rights of any third party and that any individual(s) recognizable in the photograph have given permission for their likeness to be used.
