2023 Aviation, Aerospace and UAS Legislative Reception

The Virginia Aviation Business Association held its annual Aviation, Aerospace and UAS Legislative reception at Main Street Station in Richmond on January 25.

More than 650 guests from across the Commonwealth came to participate in one of the largest legislative reception events during General Assembly session. The Virginia Department of Aviation proudly partnered with VABA and was on hand for the event.

The Public Relations and Education team of Betty Wilson, David Halstead, Tony Sotelo and Kim Anderson staffed the DOAV exhibit. The staff members answered questions from attendees about the department and its mission. They provided guests with the 2023-24 aviation calendar as well as scholarship information and other giveaways.

The legislative reception was attended by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears, members of the Governor’s cabinet, legislators and their staffers along with industry professionals and governmental agencies. VABA President Bud Oakey introduced Governor Youngkin, who spoke about how Virginia is leading in technology development and the need for a prepared workforce.

During the festivities, a special presentation was made to former DOAV Director Mark Flynn for his dedication and service to the field of aviation.
