Two Virginia Students Selected As National Winners in Aviation Art Contest

This year’s theme for the annual aviation art contest is “A Friendlier World with Air Sports” and it brought in 108 entries from across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The artwork was broken down into three categories by birthdate and was judged on creativity, artistic ability and clear view of the theme. The top three winners were selected in each category and were sent to the national level for judging where two Virginians placed in the national completion. Alison Wan, a 16 year old from Vienna, VA, placed first in the Senior Category III in state and nationally. Chu Xi Sheng, a 12 year old from Herndon, VA placed third the Intermediate Category II in state and second nationally.

“We are so excited to have two national winners,” said DOAV PR Specialist Kim Wells. “These students created colorful and well-drawn artwork that showcases the fun and importance of air sports.”

The national winners have moved onto the international judging part of the contest and results are expected in April.
