Reagan National Opens its Newly Constructed Concourse

Project Journey reached a major milestone earlier this week when the newly constructed 225,000-square-foot concourse opened at Reagan National Airport. The first arrival taxied early to Gate 57 on April 20. The 14-gate concourse will serve as the home of American Airlines' regional operations and provides direct, enclosed access to aircraft via jetbridges, as well as spacious waiting areas. This summer, when finishing touches on the building are complete, the concourse will also feature new shopping and dining options.

The new concourse, which includes Gates 46-59, was designed to enhance passenger convenience and comfort. The opening marks the permanent end of operations at Gate 35X, where passengers previously rode buses to aircraft before boarding via outdoor stairways and ramps. The new gates provide a one-for-one replacement of the former remote positions - without adding capacity for additional flights.

Amenities located inside the new concourse include seating for 850 passengers, 14,000 square feet of concession space, four public restrooms, four moving walkways, two mother's care rooms and an indoor pet relief area.

Five concessions under construction will open in July: Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill, Peet's Coffee, Capitol File News and InMotion Entertainment.

Limited concessions (Peet's Coffee and Capitol File News) will provide snacks, beverages and travel essentials in the new concourse until construction of food and shopping locations is completed this summer. In the meantime, passengers can access post-security concessions near Gates 35-45. A complete list can be found here. These options are located just beyond the security screening checkpoint. Passengers can move freely between these gates and Gates 46-59 through a temporary corridor.
