New Market Airport Upgrades Its Runway
The Rural Airport Runway Rehabilitation Program was approved by the Virginia Aviation Board on November 15, 2018 to provide state funding for small, rural airport runway rehabilitation projects. The airports in the rural areas of the State are underfunded due to constrained local budgets, which in turn causes a potential safety risk to the flying public. This program provides funding at a ratio of 95% State funding and 5% Local Funding. By reducing the Local share from the standard 20% share to 5% it helps the rural localities afford to maintain the pavements at these airports.
The funds available through this program are helping turn airports around to better become a viable community asset.
