USAF Approves KittyHawk’s eVTOL

KittyHawk’s Heaviside electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft earned airworthiness approval from the U.S. Air Force.  The approval opens the door to revenue service for the aircraft that has a range of 100 miles and a top speed of 180 mph.

This pusher-configured, forward-swept wing aircraft is the fourth design approved by the Air Force for military applications.

While the Heaviside will be used initially as a communications relay aircraft, it will likely serve as a test bed for the development of battlefield technologies.  Because it is more than 100 times quieter than a helicopter, it may also prove useful as a quick ride for essential personnel in isolated locations.
