Breeze Airways Starts Service in Norfolk
Start-up air carrier Breeze Airways began operations yesterday in Norfolk. The inaugural flight arrived Thursday morning at Norfolk International Airport to fanfare, a “live mermaid”, a host of city and state officials, and a number of people eager to fly the low-cost carrier directly to in-demand destinations. Once the first arriving passengers deplaned, the first group of departing passengers boarded the aircraft and flew to Charleston, SC. A second Breeze flight departed later in the day for Tampa, Fla.
Next month, Breeze will add direct service from Norfolk to New Orleans (July 15); Columbus (Ohio), Pittsburg (PA) and Hartford (CT) on July 22; and to Providence (RI) on July 29. Breeze will also begin flying out of Richmond International in July.
Initial ticket prices are selling for as low as $39. Breeze Airways is the latest creation of JetBlue founder David Neeleman.
