Transportation Workers to Receive Vaccine

Gov. Ralph Northam yesterday pledged to increase the pace of Coronavirus vaccine inoculations and announced that workers in transportation fields would be included in the essential worker classification of 1c.  The Governor recognizes the key role played by employees in transportation fields and wants to ensure these workers are protected from the virus.

“Getting Virginians vaccinated against COVID-19 is the best way to end this pandemic, rebuild our economy, and move our Commonwealth forward,” said Governor Northam.

Virginia Department of Aviation Director Mark Flynn said, “The aviation workforce deals directly with the public every day, from flight instructors and aviation maintenance technicians to cabin crew members and the many other jobs where the aviation industry serves the public.  We are working with our colleagues in the administration to ensure aviation industry employees will be eligible for the vaccine as soon as possible.”

Governor Northam set a new goal of 25,000 vaccinations per day, and said he will engage the National Guard to provide logistical support and to help local health departments administer vaccines as the Commonwealth receives more doses.  Virginia continues to follow the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention guidelines as it endeavors to eradicate the global pandemic.
