Boeing Commercial Aircraft will be SAF Capable by 2030

Boeing announced that it has committed to its commercial airplanes being capable of flying on 100% sustainable aviation fuels by 2030.

The company has previously conducted test flights proving that commercial aircraft can successfully be flown with sustainable aviation fuels.  Partnering with airlines, engine manufacturers and others for these flights beginning in 2008, approval was gained for their use in 2011.  Currently, conventional jet fuel and sustainable aviation fuels may be mixed up to a 50/50 blend.

Sustainable aviation fuels are made from a variety of sustainable, non-petroleum, sources. Use of these fuels reduce CO2 emissions and improve local air quality and fuel efficiency.
