Groundbreaking for New Hangars at Winchester Regional Airport
A groundbreaking ceremony for the KOKV Hangars project at Winchester Regional Airport was held on Friday, February 18. Purcellville-based TMG Construction Corporation hosted the groundbreaking for the first building of Phase I of the project.
The first phase of the project involves construction of eleven box-style hangars grouped into two buildings along the southeast side of Winchester Regional Airport. Building 1, which broke ground Friday, will be approximately 20,000-square-feet and will include six hangars. Construction of Building 1 will be complete this summer, and TMG will then commence construction of Building 2.
“We started this journey of developing this hangar project just over a year ago when the Airport Authority accepted our Public Private Partnership offer,” said Joe Matthews, Executive Vice President of TMG Construction. This project is a great example of what can be accomplished when trust and respect are the foundation for people working together towards a common goal.”
The partnership between TMG Construction Corporation and Winchester Regional Airport was signed in June 2021, with design of the hangars starting immediately after. Airport Executive Director Nick Sabo said he enjoys working with Tanya and Joe Matthews and TMG Construction.
“This project has been a lesson in the power of vision, and how stakeholders at every level can work together to achieve incredible results,” Sabo said. “We are proud of our partnership with TMG and Adsurgo Development, and look forward to bringing in-demand aviation infrastructure to the Winchester Regional Airport.”
This is part of a multi-year project to build 32 hangar condominiums at the airport. Each hangar will have airfield access and will be heated, insulated and equipped with a bathroom. Other amenities include central compressed air, internet, electronic access control and an outdoor picnic area. The overall build-out of KOKV Hangars will take up to six years.
