First Pilot with Insulin-Treated Diabetes is Cleared to Fly by FAA
The Diabetes Organization is thrilled to share that the first pilots with insulin-treated diabetes have been cleared by the FAA for commercial flight. Introducing Pietro Marsala, diabetes warrior, and now, eligible commercial pilot. Marsala, who was on his way to becoming a commercial pilot, found out in 2012 that he had Type 1 diabetes and had to give up that career. Now he has received his first class medical certificate and has applied to fly for a regional airline.
