Emission Reduction Efforts Suspended
Efforts to reduce aircraft engine emissions have been put on hold as major aircraft manufacturers, such as Airbus, have “more pressing problems to solve” -- problems generated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said that his company remains committed to improving emissions, but “for practical cash reasons” the company has stopped or suspended some projects aimed at “decarbonizing” its products. The European manufacturing giant reported $515 million in losses in the first quarter of this year, put thousands of workers on furlough and sought billions in loans to survive the coronavirus crisis.
