Aviation School opens classes to Norfolk and Hampton high school students
High school students in Norfolk and Hampton will soon have the chance to get on the fast track to a good-paying job as an aircraft mechanic as part of a new partnership program.
The students will be able to take four courses during their junior and senior years at Aviation Institute of Maintenance's Norfolk campus under its new dual enrollment program. This program is being propelled by a nationwide shortage of aircraft mechanics. North American employers will need around 193,000 new mechanics during the next 20 years to replace those exiting the field, according to a 2019 study by Boeing.
