Military Researchers Study COVID-19 Transmission Risk on Airliners

In continuing coverage, The CBS Evening NewsVideo (10/18, story 8, 2:00, Garrett, 1.4M) reported researchers with the US military and DARPA “wanted to know what the exposure risk for viruses like COIVD-19 was for troops on an airliner” using “a dummy simulating a coughing airline passenger.” Vice Adm. Dee Mewbourne, Deputy Commander, US Transportation Command: “The analysis showed an overall low exposure risk on these aircraft from airborne pathogens from COVID-19.” CBS (Van Cleave) added, “Especially when the coughing test dummy wore a mask. Testing found on average, just 0.003% of the particles reached another passenger’s breathing zone.”
