American Offers 737 MAX Tours

As a way to boost confidence in the safety of flying the Boeing 737 MAX, American Airlines says it is planning to allow customers to tour the aircraft at several airports in advance of the first scheduled flights of the MAX since March 2019. Two of the airports that will offer the tours are Miami International and New York’s LaGuardia Airport, which will be the route for the first planned flight December 29, 2020. Dallas/Fort Worth is a third tour site.

American Airlines will have both pilots and mechanics on hand to answer in-person and virtual format questions about the MAX from consumers during the tours.

The 737 MAX’s return to service has been hampered by a number of starts and stops, including groundings by individual airlines and approval delays by the Federal Aviation Administration. Last week, the MAX earned that approval of the European Aviation Safety Agency, which says the airplane is now safe and expects the aircraft to begin flying again in the European Union before the end of 2020.
