Air Traffic Facilities Participating in LAANC
On September 24 2020, the FAA expanded the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) to increase access for drone pilots into controlled airspace. LAANC is now available at 537 air traffic facilities and 726 airports.
LAANC is the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability, a collaboration between FAA and Industry. It directly supports UAS integration into the airspace.
- Drone pilots with access to controlled airspace at or below 400 feet.
- Awareness of where pilots can and cannot fly.
- Air Traffic Professionals with visibility into where and when drones are operating.
Virginia airports participating in LAANC include Charlottesville-Albemarle, Danville Regional, Manassas Regional, Ingalls Field, Lynchburg Regional, Norfolk International, Newport News/Williamsburg International, Richmond International, Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional, and Shenandoah Valley Regional.
If you want to fly in controlled airspace near airports not offering LAANC, you can use the manual process to apply for an authorization, or wait until LAANC is available.
